Light Chapel
From a projector on a sheet of plywood to a screen that brings worship to life.
How LED Media helped a Melbourne church replace a fading projector with an LED screen its congregation, and its creative team, love.
Key wins
- A visible lift in engagement, in both worship and the message.
- Older members can finally read every scripture and visual clearly, from any seat.
- Not a single complaint from the congregation since install.
- A re-energised media team creating their own Easter and Christmas content in-house.
- Baptism cameras now on the big screen, so the whole church shares the moment.
- Less prep for the pastor, and more creative freedom on stage.
The challenge
For years, Light Chapel worshipped with what they had. A data projector aimed at a frame on the wall, and for a while, a sheet of plywood hung from the ceiling as a screen. It displayed the lyrics, but little more. Stage design was limited, Easter and Christmas were a scramble, and the projector was fading, its globes failing more often, until one blew right before a service. In a creative city like Melbourne, the team wanted their church to feel current and excellent, and they could see the visuals were holding them back. The question became simple: patch up the old projector for another season, or step into something better.
What we delivered
- LED screen hire for earlier youth conferences and events, so the team could experience the technology first.
- A demonstration screen for a special Sunday, so the board and eldership could see it in worship before deciding.
- Supply and installation of a permanent indoor LED screen.
- After-hours installation to meet a tight event deadline.
- Integration with the church’s existing AV system.
- All cabling supplied.
- Hands-on training for the media team.
- Ongoing support: remote fixes, phone and email, including weekends.
Our approach
Light Chapel already knew LED Media. We’d supplied hire screens for their conferences and helped install a screen at a church their team had been part of before, so when they were ready to invest, we were the first call. What mattered most to the board wasn’t just the screen. It was knowing who would train them, who would maintain it, and who would pick up the phone if something ever went wrong. They wanted the security of a warranty and a local team they could reach, and that is exactly what a partnership with LED Media gives you.
The biggest step was helping the leadership picture it, because many had never seen an LED screen up close. So rather than talk specs, we brought a screen in for a special event and let them experience it in worship. Seeing the engagement in the room, and understanding how much longer an LED screen lasts than a projector, turned the decision into what the team called a no-brainer.
From there we managed it end to end. When the shipment hit a delay at the port, we moved the moment it landed, working after hours to install ahead of the event. Our installer Sam spent hours integrating the new screen with the church’s older system, and Dan rode along with the install team on day one to make sure it arrived safely and on time. Since go-live, we’ve stayed close, with follow-up calls, remote fixes, and a phone and email line that’s answered, even on a Sunday morning.
The result
Installed since December, the screen has had an overwhelmingly positive response, and, unusually for a big investment, not a single complaint. Engagement has lifted noticeably in both worship and the message. The biggest surprise has been the older congregation, who can now read every scripture and visual clearly from anywhere in the room. The readability issues they used to field have simply stopped.
The screen has also transformed what the church can create. The media, content, and animation teams have found fresh energy, producing their own Easter openers, graphics, and sermon-series titles rather than relying on templates. Connecting the baptism cameras to the screen now lets the whole congregation share in each baptism. And for the pastor, it has meant less prep and more freedom on stage, knowing everyone, front row to back, can see what’s on the screen. Compared to the old projector, the team sums it up in three words: chalk and cheese.
“The whole experience with LED Media has been amazing, from start to finish. I’d recommend them as the best LED supplier in Melbourne.”
