Uni Hill Church
“We were just doing it better”: Uni Hill Church’s seamless move to LED.
How Uni Hill Church made worship more immersive and kept it running for years, with a screen and a partnership from LED Media.
Key wins
- A seamless upgrade that felt like the church, only better.
- Instant, high-quality creativity for Christmas, Easter, and every Sunday.
- Deeper participation, with the congregation featured on the big screen.
- Both younger and older members are drawn in.
- Four to five years on, with no significant issues.
- Confidence that the right product was matched to the church’s vision.
The challenge
Uni Hill Church gathers a few hundred people across its Melbourne sites, and for years its Sunday services ran on an overhead projector aimed at a framed section of white wall. Senior Pastor Charles Crisapulli was happy with it because he had nothing to compare it to. But the picture faded so gradually that no one noticed until it was quite poor, and repairing a projector proved expensive. The church’s whole heart is an immersive worship experience, where people feel they’re participating in the presence of God rather than watching from a distance. They’d invested in vibrant music and lighting, but the visuals had quietly fallen behind, and they only realised the gap once they saw what a screen could do.
What we delivered
- LED screen hire for an event, so the church could try it in their own room first.
- A consultative discovery process to match the right screen to their vision, stage, and content.
- Supply and installation of an appropriately sized auditorium LED screen.
- Project management and installation were delivered on schedule, around the church’s calendar.
- On-site team training.
- Scheduled servicing to protect the screen’s longevity.
- Ongoing support and a direct line, four to five years and counting.
Our approach
Uni Hill came to us through a relationship with Dan and started not with a purchase but with a hire, using a screen for an event to see how it felt in their own room before committing. When they were ready to invest, Charles and his board cared less about the hardware and more about what came after it: who would train the team, who would maintain the screen, and whom they could call. That’s the heart of a Partners for Life relationship, and it’s why they chose a local partner they could always reach.
What stood out in the proposal was that it didn’t feel like a sale. Instead of pushing the cheapest option, we worked to understand where the church wanted to head and why, then walked Charles through what actually mattered: stage depth, whether content would be video or still, and how the room is used, before recommending a screen built for that vision. Years on, it’s still the right fit.
Installation was well-planned and on schedule, so the church could work around its calendar, and the communication is what Charles remembers most. Since then, the church has chosen to have our team service the screen and train their people. That ongoing care is why, four to five years in, they’ve never had a significant issue.
The result
The screen launched in two stages. It arrived during the 2020 and 2021 period when the church couldn’t gather, and the immediate response from the online audience was that services looked clean and professional. When the congregation finally returned to the room, the reaction told the real story. It was seamless. Instead of talking about the technology, people talked about how good it was to be back together and how warm the room felt.
Since then, the screen has delivered exactly the immersive, participatory experience the church was after. It’s made high-quality creativity easy and affordable, dropping in a professional image or video to instantly transform the feel of a Christmas or Easter service, without draining the team’s resources. It’s deepened engagement, too. Featuring members, including young families, at the recent Easter services, in high-quality videos on the big screen, reinforces that everyone is a participant, not a spectator, and gets people talking about the content, not the screen. Four to five years on, Charles’s message to other pastors is simple: an LED screen isn’t about competing; it’s about becoming who you are.
“It was seamless. It integrated perfectly into where we were already going. It was just who we were; we were just doing it better. We’re a few years down the road, and there hasn’t been a moment when the LED Media team haven’t been available to help us.”
